Season 2 / Economic

Opening Scene
Violet doesn't wait in line. She never does. A private guide leads him through a side entrance while the queue outside stretches across the plaza. No crowds, no friction, no negotiating with strangers for space. Just him and the experience, exactly as designed. The park looks the same from the outside. But for him, it's a completely different product.
Origin
From mass entertainment to tiered fantasy
How much theme parks have changed lately, and honestly, it’s a bit wild. We used to go to these places for the "shared experience," right? Everyone paid the same, waited in the same lines, and felt the same rush.
When Disneyland opened in 1955, the whole idea was that everyone got the same magic. For a long time, that worked. But around the 90s, things started shifting. Parks realized some people would pay extra just to skip the parts they hated, like the crowds and those endless lines.
Universal dropped the first Express Pass in 1999, and Disney eventually joined in. What started as a little convenience has turned into a total tiered system. Now, your budget basically decides what kind of day you’re going to have in the exact same park.
The Phenomenon
It’s getting pretty expensive, too. Disney’s Lightning Lane prices jumped 55% in just over a year. And at Universal’s Epic Universe, which just opened last year, VIP tours can cost you up to $650 on top of your actual ticket. Crazy, right?
But the real game-changer is happening right now in Mexico. This fall, the BON Luxury Theme Park is opening in Puerto Vallarta. They’re calling it the world’s first luxury-focused park. It’s got 23 rides, 25 fancy restaurants, and a massive $200 million Cirque du Soleil theater.
Here’s the kicker: for the first year, you can only get in if you’re staying at the resort. They’re intentionally keeping the crowds small so there are almost no wait times. It’s a huge shift in how these places work.
By the end of this year, people are expected to spend over $500 billion on luxury travel. It seems the park itself isn't the main draw anymore
